ProductPlan made roadmaps easy to build and easy to share: drag bars onto a timeline, invite unlimited viewers, present it to leadership. The catch for Jira teams is that the roadmap is a picture of the plan, maintained separately from the Jira work that delivers it.
This page compares ProductPlan with Capacity Planning, Release Management, Roadmaps & Timeline, a roadmap and release-forecasting app that runs inside Jira. Comparing more than one tool? See also the Productboard alternative page.
The short answer
ProductPlan is a presentation-first roadmap tool. Capacity Planning, Release Management, Roadmaps & Timeline is a forecasting-first one: the roadmap bars come from Jira Fix Versions, and each release carries a probabilistic date, a capacity check and a dependency map. If your roadmap needs to be defended, not just shown, plan it in Jira.
ProductPlan vs Jira + the Divim app
| ProductPlan | Jira + Capacity Planning, Release Management, Roadmaps & Timeline | |
|---|---|---|
| Where the roadmap lives | In ProductPlan, with integrations | In Jira, built from your Fix Versions |
| Who pays | Seats for people who build or manage roadmaps; viewers are free and unlimited | Billed on the Jira site user tier; every Jira user can view |
| Release planning | “Launch management” listed on the pricing page | Monte Carlo forecast per release with P50/P85/P95 dates |
| Capacity planning | Not listed on the pricing page | Included: throughput, WIP, PTO and holidays |
| Dependencies | “Risk & dependency tracking” | Dependency Map and Critical Path from live Jira issue links |
| Portfolio | Portfolio views | Portfolio tab ranks every release by forecast confidence (Advanced edition) |
| Price | Not published; one plan, book a demo | Free up to 10 Jira users; $30/user/year list for 11–100 users (Standard) |
Prices were read from each vendor’s public pricing page on October 10, 2026, and from the Atlassian Marketplace live pricing API the same day. Vendors change pricing; check the source before you budget.
Where ProductPlan is strong
ProductPlan’s single plan includes prioritisation boards, portfolio views, risk and dependency tracking and launch management, and it charges only for the people who build roadmaps. For a team whose main need is a clean, shareable roadmap for executives, that is a good fit.
Where planning inside Jira wins
The bars move when the work moves
In the Product Roadmap tab (Advanced edition), each bar is a Jira release showing completeness and its forecast status — on track, watch or at risk. Drag a bar to change dates, or chain sequential releases. Nobody has to update a separate slide when an epic slips. See the user guide.
A forecast behind every bar
A ProductPlan bar ends where someone dragged it. A bar in Capacity Planning, Release Management, Roadmaps & Timeline is backed by a Monte Carlo forecast over your team’s real throughput, so you can tell leadership there is an 85% chance of shipping by a given date (how it works). Our post on why a project timeline drawn once drifts explains the difference.
Capacity and dependencies feed the date
Turn on capacity awareness and the forecast accounts for PTO, holidays and work in progress. Turn on dependency awareness and blocking links on the critical path push the date out. Both are toggles on the Release Planning tab.
Data stays in Atlassian
The app is Forge-native, Runs on Atlassian and Cloud Fortified, with no customer-data egress (details).
Moving from ProductPlan
- List each bar on your ProductPlan roadmap that maps to a real release.
- Create or confirm a Jira Fix Version for each release, and attach the epics that belong to it.
- Install Capacity Planning, Release Management, Roadmaps & Timeline, create a product from the boards that ship together and set working days.
- Open Product Roadmap to see the releases on a timeline with forecast status; chain releases that run in sequence.
- Share the Portfolio tab with leadership instead of a roadmap export.
When to keep ProductPlan
If your roadmap covers initiatives that never touch Jira — marketing launches, hardware, partner programs — ProductPlan can show those; the app plans Jira work only.
Try it inside your own Jira
Capacity Planning, Release Management, Roadmaps & Timeline installs from the Atlassian Marketplace in a few clicks and comes with Atlassian’s standard 30-day trial. It runs on Atlassian Forge (Runs on Atlassian, Cloud Fortified), so your Jira data never leaves Atlassian’s cloud. Start with the user guide, or see the full Atlassian-only planning stack.
