Productboard is built around customer insight: capture feedback, link it to features, prioritise, and publish a roadmap. Delivery happens in Jira, connected through an integration. For many Jira teams the question is whether they need the whole platform, or only the roadmap and release half of it.
This page compares Productboard with an Atlassian-only approach: Jira Product Discovery for insight and prioritisation, and Capacity Planning, Release Management, Roadmaps & Timeline for release forecasting, capacity, timeline and portfolio. If you are also weighing Aha!, see Aha! vs Jira.
The short answer
If Productboard’s feedback inbox and customer portal are central to how you work, keep it. If you mostly use Productboard to publish roadmaps and plan releases that are then executed in Jira, an Atlassian-only stack does that job without a second system, and adds what Productboard’s pricing page does not list: capacity planning and probabilistic release dates.
Productboard vs an Atlassian-only stack
| Productboard | Jira Product Discovery + Capacity Planning, Release Management, Roadmaps & Timeline | |
|---|---|---|
| Where planning data lives | In Productboard, connected to Jira by integration | In Jira |
| Jira integrations | Up to 5 on the Business plan; included on Enterprise | Native: the app runs inside Jira |
| Release planning | Included, with multiple release groups | Monte Carlo forecast per Fix Version with P50/P85/P95 dates |
| Capacity planning | Not listed on the pricing page | Throughput, WIP, PTO, holidays, overcommitment warnings |
| Roadmaps | Timeline and column roadmaps | Product Roadmap timeline and confidence-ranked Portfolio (Advanced edition); JPD views for discovery roadmaps |
| Customer feedback & portals | Yes, core strength | Not in the app; JPD captures insights on ideas |
| Minimum purchase | 5 makers on Business and Enterprise | Free up to 10 Jira users |
| Price | Not published (request a demo / contact sales) | $30/user/year list for 11–100 Jira users (Standard); JPD from $0 (3 creators), $10 or $25 per creator/month |
Prices were read from each vendor’s public pricing page on October 10, 2026, and from the Atlassian Marketplace live pricing API the same day. Vendors change pricing; check the source before you budget.

Where Productboard is strong
Productboard’s strength is the front of the funnel: collecting customer feedback, linking it to features and turning it into prioritised roadmaps. Its plans include product portals, Jira and Azure DevOps integrations, AI credits for its Spark features, and on Enterprise, SAML SSO, SCIM and audit logs.
Where the Atlassian-only stack wins
The roadmap stays attached to the work
Productboard’s Business plan allows up to five Jira integrations. In an Atlassian-only stack there is nothing to integrate: Jira Product Discovery ideas link to Jira epics, and Capacity Planning, Release Management, Roadmaps & Timeline plans the Fix Versions those epics ship in.
Dates with a confidence level
Release groups tell you what is planned together. Capacity Planning, Release Management, Roadmaps & Timeline tells you when it will likely land: it forecasts each release from historical Jira throughput and reports P50, P85 and P95 dates, then shows how many days scope creep, late dependencies and capacity changes have cost. Learn more in our Monte Carlo release forecast guide.
Capacity is part of the plan
Productboard’s pricing page does not list capacity planning. In Capacity Planning, Release Management, Roadmaps & Timeline, the Capacity Management tab reports flow metrics per team and flags a release as overcommitted when its committed scope exceeds what the team can likely finish at 85% confidence (how capacity is modelled).
No second vendor in your security review
The app runs on Atlassian Forge with the Runs on Atlassian and Cloud Fortified designations and declares no egress of customer issue data (details).
How the two halves fit together
- Capture and prioritise ideas in Jira Product Discovery. Contributors are free on every JPD plan.
- When an idea is committed, create the delivery epic in Jira and assign it to a Fix Version.
- In Capacity Planning, Release Management, Roadmaps & Timeline, the Fix Version gets a forecast date range, a capacity check and a dependency map.
- Leadership reads the Portfolio tab, which ranks every release across products by forecast confidence.
- Before ship, publish a Release Readiness report to Confluence for the go/no-go review.
When to keep Productboard
Keep Productboard if your customer portal is public and busy, if sales and success teams feed it daily, or if you rely on its Salesforce integration. You can still plan and forecast the Jira side with the app.
Try it inside your own Jira
Capacity Planning, Release Management, Roadmaps & Timeline installs from the Atlassian Marketplace in a few clicks and comes with Atlassian’s standard 30-day trial. It runs on Atlassian Forge (Runs on Atlassian, Cloud Fortified), so your Jira data never leaves Atlassian’s cloud. Start with the user guide, or see the full Atlassian-only planning stack.
